1. The Korean government will be dispatching Mr. Chang-hyun Cho, Chairperson of the Civil Service
Commission, to the presidential inauguration ceremony which will be held at the Dominican Republic on
August 16th.
2. Mr. Cho will participate in the inauguration ceremony to congratulate the new President of the
Dominican Republic, Mr. Leonel Fernandez, and deliver an autograph letter from President Roh Moo-hyun
which expresses the desire to further develop friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries.
Mr. Cho will also hold discussions with President Fernandez and other major leaders of the Dominican
government on how to enhance bilateral relations.
3. Approximately 20 Korean sewing companies are operating in the Dominican Republic, and more
Korean small and medium enterprises are expected to enter the market since the trade and investment
environment is steadily improving with the Dominican government continuously promoting the expansion of
international trade, as seen through its conclusion of an FTA with the U.S. on March 14th, 2004.
4. In addition, Mr. Cho will visit Costa Rica on his return trip, and will hold talks with high-level government
officials to discuss measures to enhance bilateral cooperation in the fields of personnel administration and
innovation.
