1. 2nd Vice Foreign Minister Chun Yung-woo met with Jaime Miranda, El Salvador’s Vice Foreign Minister
visiting Korea for the 2010 High-Level Forum on Korea-LAC (Latin America and Caribbean) Partnership,
on May 27 to exchange views on trade and investment; economic cooperation; and other major pending
issues between Korea and El Salvador.
2. Conveying the El Salvadorian government’s solidarity with the Korean government with respect to the
Cheonan incident, Vice Minister Miranda formally delivered the El Salvador Foreign Ministry’s statement,
which acknowledges the result of the international investigation team’s probe attributing the Cheonan
sinking to a North Korean torpedo attack and offers sympathy over the death of innocent servicemen.
Vice Minister Chun expressed gratitude in response.
3. Vice Minister Chun requested the El Salvadorian government’s interest in and support for some 20
Korean firms in El Salvador that are contributing to the country’s job creation and economic growth.
Underscoring job creation as an issue of high importance in El Salvador at present, Vice Minister
Miranda took note of the operations of the Korean firms in the country.
4. Expressing appreciation for the Korean government’s economic cooperation projects in El Salvador
in information and communications, public health and medical services, and agriculture, Vice Minister
Miranda expected the two countries to boost cooperation in a wide range of fields, including
e-government, green growth and prevention of natural disasters.
