1. The Foreign Ministry, together with Arts Council Korea, will co-host the “ROK-Cuba Joint Creative Performance” in the Olympus Hall, Samseong-dong, Seoul, on December 26 to present ensembles of Cuban and traditional Korean music.
° The event will be held under the theme of “Summer into Winter,” which signifies a melding of the Caribbean fever and the Korean winter into a musical fantasy. It will feature a variety of music, including arias of famous operas, classical Cuban songs and Afro-Cuban music.
2. The performers will include top musicians of the two countries, who have successfully added experimental flavors to traditional music and thus been recognized for their talent in both traditional and experimental music. These musicians will perform side by side, providing one another with artistic stimulation and the audience with a rarely accessible joint concert.
3. The event will take place as part of the two-way cultural exchange programs conducted by the Foreign Ministry since 2006 to introduce to the ROK public the cultures of Latin America, the Middle East, Africa, and Central Asia, areas with which the ROK had had few cultural exchanges.
° Amid increasing trade and tourism exchanges with Cuba, a country without diplomatic relations with the ROK, cultural exchanges, such as this event, with the country, are expected to contribute to the relations between the two countries by enhancing mutual understanding.
