1. The Governments of the Republic of Korea and Azerbaijan have agreed to mutually acknowledge the validity of driver’s licenses issued by the other side. The ROK’s Ambassador to Azerbaijan Choi Suk-inn and Minister of Internal Affairs Ramil Usubov of Azerbaijan signed the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Korea and the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan on the Mutual Recognition and Exchange of Driving Licenses in Azerbaijan on October 23, local time.
° The ROK is the first country for Azerbaijan to sign such an agreement with.
2. The Agreement will allow the peoples of the two countries to exchange their driver’s licenses issued by their home countries with those issued by the other country without further testing. As such, it is expected to greatly promote the convenience of Koreans and Azerbaijanis staying in the two countries.
* The Agreement will take effect 30 days after the receipt by the two countries of each other’s written notices on their completion of necessary domestic procedures for its effectuation.
3. The ROK government will continue making efforts to have other countries with an increasing presence of ROK nationals recognize the validity of ROK-issued driver’s licenses.
* As of October 25, 2013, the ROK has concluded such agreements with 131 countries, including Azerbaijan.
