1. Considering that the humanitarian crisis in Yemen has continued to worsen since Houthi rebels occupied the capital Sana'a in September 2014, the government of the Republic of Korea has decided to provide an additional 500,000 US dollars in humanitarian aid through the World Food Program (WFP).
o This additional 500,000 US dollars to be provided in addition to the 500,000 US dollars already donated in April this year bring the total amount of the ROK government’s aid to Yemen this year to 1 million US dollars.
2. As continued armed clashes caused a severe humanitarian crisis, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) declared its highest-level humanitarian emergency (Level-3) in Yemen in July this year and significantly increased the Consolidated Appeals Process (CAP) for Yemen from US$ 750 million to US$ 1.6 billion.
3. Despite its limited budget, the ROK government will continue to provide humanitarian assistance to solve the humanitarian crises in Africa and the Middle East, including Syria, Iraq and South Sudan, as part of its efforts to strengthen humanitarian diplomacy.
