1. The government of the Republic of Korea has decided to offer Yemen one million US dollars in humanitarian assistance in addition to the donation to the country in 2015 to help it overcome its severe humanitarian crisis triggered by the prolonged civil war.
2. The aid will be provided through such international organizations as the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) that are undertaking humanitarian assistance operations in Yemen. It is expected to help alleviate the humanitarian plight of vulnerable brackets, including women, children and refugees in Yemen.
3. The government of the ROK, as a responsible middle-power country of the international community, is implementing “humanitarian diplomacy” as its signature “brand” of diplomacy. Going forward, the government will increase humanitarian assistance to Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan and other regions that are undergoing chronic humanitarian crises caused by prolonged conflicts.
